The 30 yard container in Mooresville
The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 7.5 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky debris but the site has no more room: a multi-room renovation, an estate or move-out cleanout, a large office cleanout, a retail remodel with fixtures, shelving and partitions, light demolition, or a community or HOA cleanup. It generally fits in most two-car driveways and works well on job sites and commercial properties around Mooresville, and it holds about nine pickup loads, or roughly 170 to 190 trash bags.
The sides are six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors with a crew do not mind; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap.
Big renovations, cleanouts and commercial remodels
Taking several rooms back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: the cabinets, the doors, the drywall, framing and flooring. Estate, move-out and rental property cleanouts land here too — furniture, mattresses and household junk — and so do office and retail remodels with fixtures and shelving, and light demolition with doors, windows and framing lumber.
Knocking a building down takes paperwork before it takes a dumpster. North Carolina's Health Hazards Control Unit, part of NC DHHS, requires a DHHS 3768 notice for the demolition of a building whether or not it contains asbestos, and removal or demolition may start on the tenth working day after the notice. In Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson, Mecklenburg County runs its own asbestos program, and the state points you to it. We will ask what the building is before we quote.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
About four to five tons — 8,000 to 10,000 pounds — is included, depending on the debris type and disposal guidelines. Tile, plaster, shingles and concrete can reach that before the box looks full, so separate dense material where you can. Jobs that run for weeks usually go on a rotation: we pull the full one and bring a replacement, so the site never waits. Contractors and commercial customers can ask about recurring service programs and job-site rotations.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Multi-room renovations
- Estate, move-out and rental property cleanouts
- Office and retail remodels — fixtures, shelving, partitions
- Light demolition — doors, windows, framing
- Community and HOA cleanups
Pick a different size for
- Mostly concrete, brick, dirt, tile or asphalt — a smaller box is safer and more cost-effective
- Small cleanouts (you would pay for unused space)
- Sites without room for a 22-foot container and the truck
- Asbestos, paint, chemicals, fuel, oil, tires, batteries or medical waste
Placing a 30 yard container on a Mooresville-area property
It needs a flat, stable spot about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, about 60 feet of access for the truck, and at least 25 feet of clear space overhead — no low wires, branches or carports. On your own driveway or lot in Mooresville we found no Town permit rule for a roll-off, and the Town's own Dial-A-Dumpster must be placed in the driveway, not in the yard or street. The street is different: the Town Code bars obstructions in streets and sidewalks without Town approval (Secs. 20-71, 20-9) and makes storing personal property on a public street a nuisance (Sec. 23-107), and we found no Town dumpster permit. On NCDOT-maintained roads such as NC-115, NC-150, NC-152 and NC-801, G.S. 136-93 requires a written permit for any obstruction, and we found no permit path for a temporary roll-off. Other towns have their own rules — Kannapolis needs a Public Works permit to obstruct a street during building operations, and Davidson and Concord bar obstructions in their streets and sidewalks. Check your HOA too: covenants can cover containers in driveways. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own code.

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a normal cleanout, often yes — a whole-home cleanout is usually a 20. For a renovation that strips several rooms, or a whole estate, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. We will tell you honestly which it is.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. Once the container is full we schedule prompt pickup or bring a replacement, and contractors and property managers with ongoing work can set up a rotation at the start.
How much weight is included in a 30 yard?
Most rentals include about four to five tons, depending on the debris type. A 30 full of tile, brick, dirt or concrete can go past that well before it reaches the fill line, so we estimate heavy loads with you before delivery.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
On your own driveway or lot in Mooresville we found no Town permit rule for a roll-off. We also found no Town dumpster permit for the street — the Town Code bars obstructions in streets and sidewalks unless the Town approves (Secs. 20-71, 20-9), so plan on private property and call the Town before you count on anything else. On NCDOT-maintained roads such as NC-115, NC-150, NC-152 and NC-801, G.S. 136-93 requires a written NCDOT permit for any obstruction, and we found no NCDOT permit path for a temporary roll-off, so there the box stays on the property. Other towns have their own rules; each town page says what that code asks for.
