The 15 yard container in Mooresville
The 15 yard is the step up from the 10 when the job is one big room rather than one small one, and one of the most popular choices for homeowners, contractors and property managers around Mooresville. Kitchen and bathroom remodels are the classic fit — cabinets, countertops, vanities, tile and the drywall behind them — and so is a carpet or flooring change-out, a basement or multi-room cleanout before a move, a fence or deck coming down, or a landscaping job. It holds about four to five pickup loads, or roughly 80 to 100 trash bags.
At about 16 feet long it fits comfortably in most residential driveways around Mooresville and the Lake Norman communities, and the 4.5-foot sides keep loading easy. If you are between a 10 and a 20 and the stuff is light and bulky, this is usually where you land.
Kitchens, floors, decks and yards
A kitchen makes more debris than people expect: by the time the cabinets, the countertops and the drywall are out, a 10 is tight and a 15 is right. Flooring jobs are the same — carpet, laminate, tile and hardwood — and tile gets heavy fast. Light-to-medium roof tear-offs fit too; tell us the roof size and we will estimate the weight before you book. Break long boards from a deck or fence down so they load flat.
Backyard jobs fit as well — branches, shrubs, leaves, a landscape refresh, storm cleanup. Keep green waste apart from household trash: North Carolina bans yard trash from landfills except those approved for it (G.S. 130A-309.10(f)(3)), construction and demolition landfills will not take yard trash (15A NCAC 13B .0542(e)(14)), and a land clearing and inert debris landfill accepts only yard waste and inert debris (.0563(1)). A clean load has more places to go. If most of the load is concrete or dirt, a 10 may be the more cost-effective call because of the weight.
Weight on a 15 yard
About two to three tons — 4,000 to 6,000 pounds — is included, depending on the debris type and disposal requirements. Tile, roofing shingles, plaster, concrete and wet yard waste get heavier than expected, so for a heavy job we estimate the weight from the roofing squares, the flooring or the yard volume before delivery. If more than half of your debris is heavy material, we may recommend a smaller box to avoid overage charges. Load evenly, stay below the top edge, and cabinets, drywall and carpet will never get near the line.
Suitability
Is the 15 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 15 yard for
- Kitchen or bath remodel including cabinets and countertops
- Garage, basement and multi-room cleanouts
- Flooring and carpet removal
- Light-to-medium roof tear-offs
- Branches, shrubs, leaves and fence or deck removal
Pick a different size for
- Whole-house renovation — go to the 20 or 30
- Loads that are mostly concrete, dirt or heavy tile (weight — a 10 may be more cost-effective)
- Yard waste mixed into household trash
- Paint, solvents, fuel, hazardous chemicals, tires, batteries or asbestos
Placing a 15 yard container on a Mooresville-area property
It needs a flat, stable spot about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, about 60 feet of access for the truck, and at least 25 feet of clear space overhead — no low wires, branches or carports. On your own driveway or lot in Mooresville we found no Town permit rule for a roll-off, and the Town's own Dial-A-Dumpster must be placed in the driveway, not in the yard or street. The street is different: the Town Code bars obstructions in streets and sidewalks without Town approval (Secs. 20-71, 20-9) and makes storing personal property on a public street a nuisance (Sec. 23-107), and we found no Town dumpster permit. On NCDOT-maintained roads such as NC-115, NC-150, NC-152 and NC-801, G.S. 136-93 requires a written permit for any obstruction, and we found no permit path for a temporary roll-off. Other towns have their own rules — Kannapolis needs a Public Works permit to obstruct a street during building operations, and Davidson and Concord bar obstructions in their streets and sidewalks. Check your HOA too: covenants can cover containers in driveways. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own code.

15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How big is a 15 yard dumpster?
About 16 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 4.5 feet high. It holds around four to five pickup loads, or roughly 80 to 100 trash bags.
Will it fit in my driveway?
Most residential driveways have room for its 16 feet, and the driveway is where it should go. The truck needs about 60 feet of access and clear space overhead. On your own driveway in Mooresville we found no Town permit rule for a roll-off — even the Town's own Dial-A-Dumpster must be placed in the driveway, not in the yard or street. The street is a different matter: the Town Code bars obstructions in streets and sidewalks without Town approval (Secs. 20-71, 20-9, 23-107), and we found no Town dumpster permit. If you live in a community with an HOA, check its covenants on containers before you book.
Can I keep it longer than the standard period?
Yes. Most rentals include a standard rental period, typically 3 to 7 days, and we can often extend it, depending on availability, for an additional daily or weekly fee — just call.
What is the weight limit?
Most rentals include about two to three tons, depending on the debris type and disposal requirements. Dense material like shingles, tile, plaster, concrete, dirt or wet yard waste can push past that, so tell us what it is and we will help estimate it.
Can I mix different materials?
In many cases, yes, although heavy materials such as dirt or concrete may need special pricing or a separate container. Tell us the mix when you book.
