Residential Dumpster Rental across Lake Norman and Iredell County
Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. A townhouse with a short apron or a tight drive near downtown Mooresville wants a 10 or a 15 and a driver who takes it slowly. A larger property around Lake Norman may have room for a 20 — and an HOA with its own covenants. The first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, a basement, or a whole house before a move), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home cleanout guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Home cleanouts lead the way: furniture, mattresses, boxes, household junk, the contents of a garage, attic or basement. Kitchen and bath remodels are next — cabinets, countertops, tile, drywall, flooring. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, siding, an old deck or fence, a landscaping redo, storm limbs.
Town pickup is not built for any of that. Households inside Mooresville town limits use the Town's roll-out containers (Town Code Sec. 12-54(a)), and the Town does not provide dumpsters to residential or commercial users (Sec. 12-56). Building materials such as lumber, bricks, plaster, sheetrock, roofing shingles, carpet padding and linoleum will not be collected by town forces and may not go to the curb (Sec. 12-65(1)). The weekly bulky pickup takes furniture, appliances and mattresses, but not bricks, carpet, concrete, construction and demolition debris, dirt, electronics, rocks or tires. And the Town's free Dial-A-Dumpster is residents-only, for seven days at most, not available from November 1 to January 1, and takes yard or household waste only — no construction or contractor debris, shingles, carpet, electronics or paint. That is what a residential roll-off is for.
Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs
On your own driveway in Mooresville we found no Town permit rule for a roll-off, and the Town's own practice points the same way: its Dial-A-Dumpster must be placed in the driveway, not in the yard or street. Protective boards can go under the container on request, and the driver sets it where you want to load it — on a flat, stable surface, clear of wires, branches and carports. The street is another matter. Town Code Sec. 20-71(a) says no obstruction of any kind may be placed in the streets, sidewalks or alleyways of the town, apart from building material placed with permission for immediate use, and Sec. 20-71(b) makes it unlawful to place any article on a street or sidewalk so as not to leave it clear for free passage; the civil penalty is $100 (Sec. 20-80). No encroachment is permitted on Town property or public easements except as the town manager or a designee approves (Sec. 20-9), and storing personal property on a public street or right-of-way is a public nuisance the Town may remove — a Class 3 misdemeanor with a fine of up to $500 (Sec. 23-107). We found no Town dumpster permit, so driveway first.
A few more things. On NCDOT-maintained roads such as NC-115 (South Main Street), NC-150, NC-152 and NC-801, G.S. 136-93 requires a written NCDOT permit before any obstruction is placed, and we found no permit path for a temporary roll-off, so on a state road the box stays on the property. HOA covenants can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before a longer rental. And the other towns differ: Davidson makes it unlawful to place any obstruction in or over its streets or sidewalks (Sec. 66-2), Kannapolis needs a Public Works permit to obstruct a street or sidewalk during building operations (Sec. 15-3), and Concord bars obstructions in its streets, rights-of-way and sidewalks except as its code permits (Sec. 50-41). Each town page says what that town's code asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the North Carolina specifics
North Carolina keeps a list of things out of its landfills, and a mixed roll-off load ends up at one. G.S. 130A-309.10(f) says no person shall knowingly dispose of used oil, white goods (refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, unit air conditioners, washers, dishwashers, dryers and similar large appliances), antifreeze, aluminum cans, whole scrap tires, lead-acid batteries, motor vehicle oil filters, recyclable rigid plastic bottles and jugs, or discarded computer equipment and televisions in a landfill — and from December 1, 2026, lithium-ion batteries join the list. The ban falls on any person, not just the landfill, which is why we ask what is going in. Fridges, freezers and A/C units also need their refrigerant recovered under federal EPA rules (40 CFR 82.155). We found no North Carolina rule naming mattresses. Where the leftovers go instead: NC DEQ says leftover latex paint can be air-dried and mixed with litter, and Iredell County residents can take paint, chemicals and pesticides to Household Hazardous Waste Day at the Twin Oaks facility on set Saturdays — residents only, no business waste, and up to 15 one-gallon cans of paint. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers
Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take precautions to help minimize the risk of damage during delivery and pickup, and protective boards can go under the container on request. Many customers also put plywood or wooden boards beneath the container wheels for extra protection, especially on decorative or newer driveways. Tell us before delivery if a surface worries you.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
In Mooresville we found no Town dumpster permit, and the Town Code bars obstructions in streets and sidewalks unless the Town approves (Secs. 20-71, 20-9) — a violation carries a $100 civil penalty (Sec. 20-80). On an NCDOT road such as NC-115, a written NCDOT permit is required for any obstruction (G.S. 136-93), and we found no permit path for a roll-off. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my HOA have a say?
On the driveway, often yes. Covenants can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
Small appliances, usually yes. Large appliances, no: North Carolina bans white goods — refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dishwashers and dryers — from landfills (G.S. 130A-309.10(f)(4)), and federal EPA rules require refrigerant to be recovered (40 CFR 82.155). Our junk removal crew can take them once the refrigerant is properly removed.
How long can I keep the container?
Most rentals include a standard rental period, typically 3 to 7 days. If the job runs on, call and we can often extend it, depending on availability, for an additional daily or weekly fee. If you finish early, call and we pick it up early.
Do you serve outside Mooresville?
Yes — sixteen more towns and communities around Lake Norman and Iredell County, from Mount Mourne and Troutman to Statesville, Davidson, Huntersville, Kannapolis and Concord. Each has its own page, and each says plainly what that town or county requires. In Sherrills Ford and Terrell, unincorporated Catawba County has an exclusive county solid waste franchise, and in Denver, Lincoln County requires a collector permit and franchise, so there we check the county's rules before booking a container. We are licensed & insured.
